This is a temporary website to let you know what is happening at Abol Bridge.
                                                                                    
                             Abol Bridge  open to light vehicle traffic at
                                  noon time on Friday, May 28th 2004.

To all interested parties:

This is to inform you of the status of the Abol Bridge on the Golden Road,
crossing the West Branch of the Penobscot River in T2 R10 Wels.  The
main bridge superstructure rebuild is progressing well but a little behind
Schedule.  The final step to completion will be pouring the concrete deck,
and installing curbing and side rails.

The anticipated bridge opening for light vehicle traffic is scheduled for
Saturday am May 29th, 2004 any time after midnight Friday, WEATHER
PERMITTING.  Heavy truck traffic is still scheduled to commence Monday
June 21st, 2004. Reduced speed and caution must be used when
approaching the bridge.  If there are any questions please feel free to

Many thanks to Katahdin Forest Management LLC for the
effort and expense to replace Abol Bridge.  This bridge and
their road system is used by people from all over the world
to access this northern area of Maine.  Please show respect
and thanks by obeying all rules and regulations. 
 

Here you will find pictures of the bridge removal & construction at Abol, on the West Branch of the Penobscot River.  I will be adding pictures as the work progresses.  I will post any important information that I get as soon as possible.
